About the Djembe (pronounced JEM-bay) Drum
*skin covered hand drum, shaped like a large goblet
*”djembe” translates to “everyone gather together” and defines the
drum’s purpose
*originated in West Africa & is an integral part of the region’s musical
tradition/culture
*spiritual connection: said to contain 3 spirits: spirit of tree, spirit of
animal of which drum head is made, & spirit of instrument maker
