Worship

St John's Altar

At the center of life at St. John’s Episcopal Church is our worship of God. Every Sunday, we celebrate the Eucharist – (some call it Holy Communion or The Lord’s Supper) – at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.

The 8 a.m. Eucharist is a relatively quiet and meditative service, and normally has no music.

The 10 a.m. Eucharist is a more participatory service, with organ, choir, hymns, and special music.

At both services our Priest-in-Charge preaches a sermon which is rooted in one or more of the Scripture readings assigned for the day. At each service, there are usually intercessory prayers, a confession of sin and absolution, the exchange of the peace, an offertory, and near the end of the service, a final hymn and blessing.

A coffee hour follows after the 10 a.m. service. Visitors or new comers who are familiar with the contemporary Roman Catholic Mass or the Lutheran Communion Service will find the flow and content of the service generally quite familiar.

We endeavor to provide service leaflets that will help to orient people at St. John’s for the first time.
